シェルドン劇場は、1664～1669年に新古典主義様式で建てられました。設計は、クリストファー・レンの初期の作品の一つで、紀元前13年にローマに建てられたD字型のマルケッルス劇場の版画を基にしています。シェルドン劇場は、音楽の公演、演劇、講演、大学の式典に用いられています。
The Sheldonian Theatre was built in the Neoclassical style from 1664 to 1669. The design was one of the early works by Christopher Wren and was based on an engraving of the D-shaped Theatre of Marcellus built in Rome in 13 BC. The theatre is used for music concerts, drama, lectures and University ceremonies.
