The Royal Palace of Amsterdam (Koninklijk Paleis van Amsterdam) is a palace in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
アムステルダム王宮（ダム宮殿）は、オランダ黄金時代の最中、1648～1665年に古典主義様式で市庁舎として建てられました。市庁舎は、1655年に開館しました。その後、建物は、王宮になりました。
The Royal Palace of Amsterdam (Koninklijk Paleis van Amsterdam) or Paleis op de Dam was built in the Classicism style as a city hall from 1648 to 1665 during the Dutch Golden Age. The town hall was opened in 1655. Afterwards the building became the royal palace.

The ground floor was a tribunal space. The death sentence was pronounced here when the building was still a town hall. The tribunal was decorated elaborately with the marble works because this was a very important ceremony.

The Citizens’ Hall is 34 metres long and 25 metres high. The Amsterdam Maiden is depicted above the entrance. She looks down on the world at her feet. She is accompanied by the Power (the woman on her left with skin of a lion) and the Wisdom (the woman on her right with the helmet of Minerva).

The Justice is depicted on the opposite side of the Citizens’ Hall. He tramples the Greed (represented by King Midas with donkey ears) and the Envy (represented as Medusa with snakes). Furthermore, Atlas also stands above these sculptures. He holds up the sky on his shoulders.

There are maps of the western and eastern hemispheres on the marble floor in the Citizens’ Hall. The maps replaced an early pair in the middle of the 18th century and detail the area of the colonial influence of Amsterdam. The originals showed the regions explored by the ships of the Dutch East India Company in the first half of the 17th century.
