The Munttoren (Mint Tower) is a tower in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
ムント塔およびムント広場は、アムステル川とシンゲル運河の合流点に位置しています。ムント塔は、元々はアムステルダムの中世の市壁の市門の一部でした。1480年頃に建てられた市門は、2つの塔と衛兵詰所で構成されていました。1618年の火事の後、衛兵詰所と西側の塔の一部だけが残りました。塔は、1620年に再建されました。ムント塔の名前は、衛兵詰所が17世紀に貨幣鋳造のために使用されたことに由来しています。現在の建物は、1885～1887年にルネサンス・リヴァイヴァル様式で建てられました。
The Munttoren (Mint Tower) and Muntplein (Mint Square) are located where the Amstel River and the Singel canal meet. The tower was originally part of the city gate forming the medieval city walls of Amsterdam. The gate built in around 1480 consisted of 2 towers and a guard house. Only the guard house and part of the western tower remained after the fire of 1618. The tower was rebuilt in 1620. The name of the tower derives from the fact that the guard house was used to mint coins in the 17th century. The present building was built in the Renaissance Revival style from 1885 to 1887.
