モナコ大公宮殿は、元々、1191年にジェノヴァ共和国の要塞としてモナコ岩の上に建てられ、その後、1297年にグリマルディ家によって占領されました。グリマルディ家は、最初は封建時代の領主、17世紀以降は大公として、モナコを支配しました。モナコ大公宮殿は、ヨーロッパで最も珍しい宮殿の一つです。他のヨーロッパの君主が豪勢なルネサンス様式とバロック様式の宮殿を建てていた一方で、グリマルディ家は宮殿をルネサンス様式で要塞化しました。
The Prince’s Palace of Monaco (Palais princier de Monaco) was originally built on the Rock in 1191 as a Genoese fortress. Afterwards the palace was captured by the Grimaldi family in 1297. The family ruled Monaco first as feudal lords and from the 17th century as sovereign princes. The palace is one of the most unusual palaces in Europe. The family fortified the palace in the Renaissance style while other European sovereigns were building luxurious Renaissance and Baroque palaces.
