St. John's Co-Cathedral

St. John’s Co-Cathedral is a co-cathedral of the Catholic Church and was dedicated to St. John the Baptist. The church was built in the Mannerist style from 1572 to 1577 by the Order of St. John as the Conventual Church of St. John. The interior of the church was redecorated in the Baroque style in the 17 century. The church is considered to be one of the finest examples of the Baroque architecture in the world. The church remained the conventual church of the order until the order was expelled from Malta in 1798. Afterwards the church formally became a co-cathedral because the church had grown to equal prominence with the cathedral in Mdina.
