The Cathedral Square (Katedros aikštė) is a square in Vilnius, Lithuania and is a part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Historic Centre of Vilnius.
ヴィリニュス大聖堂およびリトアニア大公宮が、大聖堂広場にあります。リトアニア大公宮の背後には、丘の上に立つゲディミナス塔も見えます。これらは、広い意味でのヴィリニュス城の一部です。
The Cathedral of Vilnius and the Palace of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania are located on the Cathedral Square. Gediminas Tower also can be seen on a hill behind the palace. They are members of the Vilnius Castle Complex.
1996年に除幕されたゲディミナス大公の像が、大聖堂広場にあります。伝説によると、リトアニア大公ゲディミナスは、（おそらく1322年に）ヴィルネ川の近くに滞在した折に現在はゲディミナスの塔が立っている丘の上で吠える鉄の狼を夢で見て、鉄の狼は強固な城を表していると考えたので、ヴィリニュスをリトアニア大公国の首都にしました。
The monument of Gediminas unveiled in 1996 is placed in the Cathedral Square. According to legend, Gediminas Grand Duke of Lithuania dreamt of an iron wolf howling on a hilltop where today Gediminas Tower stands on when he stayed near the Vilnia River (possibly in 1322). He considered that the iron wolf represented a strong castle. Thus he placed the capital of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania in Vilnius.
