The Biblioteca Marciana (Library of St. Mark) is one of the earliest surviving public manuscript depositories in Italy and holds one of the greatest classical texts collections in the world. The library is named after St. Mark, the patron saint of Venice. The library was built in the Renaissance style in the 16th century. The arcaded bays were constructed during 1537 to 1553 and in 1588.
