The Monument of the Centenary (Monument du Centenaire) was inaugurated in 1896 to celebrate the centenary of the annexation of Nice to France in 1793. The bronze statue on the top of the monument represents Nike, the Greek goddess of victory and allusion to the mythical origin of the name of the city.
