Nice Cathedral (Basilique-Cathédrale Sainte-Marie et Sainte-Réparate de Nice) is a cathedral of the Catholic Church. The cathedral is dedicated to the Assumption of the Virgin Mary and St. Reparata. The cathedral originated from a chapel dedicated to St. Reparata. The chapel was founded after her relics arrived in Nice in 1060 or 1078. The main part of the current cathedral was built in the Baroque style from 1650 to 1682. The new cathedral was officially consecrated in 1699 while additional construction continued. The prominent bell tower was built next to the cathedral from 1731 to 1757. On the eastern front of the cathedral lies a bustling small square. The square is occupied by the terraces of traditional restaurants and the finest ice cream makers.
