（観光おすすめ度★★★★★）旧市街広場は、チェコのプラハにある広場であり、ユネスコ世界遺産「プラハ歴史地区」の一部です。
Old Town Square (Staroměstské náměstí) is a square in Prague, the Czech Republic and is a part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Historic Centre of Prague.
旧市街広場は、旧市街の中心にあります。旧市街広場は、ゴシック建築やバロック建築の建物に囲まれています。ヤン・フスの像が、広場の中心に立っています。ヤン・フスは、神学者でありカール4世がプラハに創設した大学の学長でした。1402年、ヤン・フスは、退廃した教会の急進的な改革と見られた説教を始めました。ヤン・フスは、コンスタンツ公会議に召喚され、その結果、1415年にコンスタンツで火刑に処せられました。その後、第1次プラハ窓外放出事件（そうがいほうしゅつじけん）が1419年に起き、フス戦争が1419～1434年にフス派とカトリック連合軍の間で戦われました。
Old Town Square (Staroměstské náměstí) lies the centre of the Old Town. The square is surrounded with Gothic and Baroque buildings. The statue of Jan Hus stands the centre of the square. He was a theologian and rector at the university founded by Charles IV in Prague. In 1402 he began giving sermons focusing on what were seen as radical reforms of a corrupt Church. He was summoned to the Council of Constance and consequently he was burnt at the stake in Constanz in 1415. Subsequently the First Defenestration of Prague occurred in 1419. Afterwards the Hussite Wars were fought between the Hussites and the combined Catholic forces from 1419 to 1434.
旧市街広場の西側部分には、旧市庁舎が立っています。元々の市庁舎は、1338年に旧市街の評議員達によって取得されました。元々の市庁舎は、隣の家屋を購入することによって西に向かって拡張され、また、1364年にゴシック様式の塔が加えられました。その後、元々の市庁舎の建物は、続く数世紀に渡る建物の改築と拡張の結果として、広く失われました。
In the west part of Old Town Square stands the Old Town Hall. The original town hall was acquired by the Old Town councillors in 1338. The original town hall was extended towards the west by buying the adjoining house and also was added a Gothic tower in 1364. Afterwards the original town hall building largely disappeared as a result of renovation and expansion of the building over the following centuries.
旧市街広場の夜景は、まるで宝石箱のようです。旧市街は、夜でも多くの観光客で賑わい、治安もそれほど悪くありません。
A night scene of Old Town Square looks just like a jewel box. The Old Town is crowded even at night and is not so dangerous.
