The Goethe Monument is a monument in Vienna, Austria and is a part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Historic Centre of Vienna.

The Goethe Monument

The Goethe Monument is a monument to Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (born in Frankfurt in 1749, a German writer, poet and statesman). The monument was placed opposite to the Schiller (Johann Christoph Friedrich von Schiller, born in Marbach in 1759, a German poet, playwright, philosopher, historian, and physician) monument (built in 1876) across the Ringstraße (the Ring Road, the boulevard surrounding the old town of Vienna and constructed under Franz Joseph I during the latter half of the 19th century) and was unveiled in 1900.
