Sannei-zaka Street (also known as Sannen-zaka Street) is a stone-paved pedestrian street. The street is often paired with the similar Ninei-zaka Street. The streets lead to the approach to Kiyomizu-dera Temple. The streets are lined with traditional buildings and shops.
「産寧坂」の名前は清水寺の子安観音への祈願に由来していると言われています。一方、産寧坂で転ぶと3年以内に死ぬという言い伝えもあります。
It is said that the name of Sannei-zaka Street derives from a prayer to Kannon Bosatsu (Bodhisattva of Compassion) for childbirth in Kiyomizu-dear Temple. Meanwhile there is a tradition that people who tumble over the street would die within 3 years.
